Fast capture
Logging a spend takes a few seconds from unlock to done, against a category and an account you already use. Every budgeting app dies the moment entry becomes a chore, so this is the feature the rest depends on.
Know where the money went — before it goes.
An Applight product for Android and iOS that tracks income and spending, watches your category budgets, and tells you something useful about the month. No account, no server, no sync — the whole ledger lives in a database on your phone and nowhere else.
Inside the app

Capabilities
Logging a spend takes a few seconds from unlock to done, against a category and an account you already use. Every budgeting app dies the moment entry becomes a chore, so this is the feature the rest depends on.
Set a monthly ceiling per category. Potli tracks the pace you are spending at, not just the total, so "over by ₹322" arrives while there is still a month left to do something about it.
A donut of where the money actually went, a month-over-month bar chart, and plain-language insights — which category is the biggest, how many budgets are blown, and what the current pace adds up to.
Salary, rent, EMIs and subscriptions are entered once and then simply happen. The home screen shows what is due in the next few days, so the forecast reflects the month you are really having.
A PIN or fingerprint unlock guards the ledger — the PIN is hashed on the device and the biometrics never leave the operating system. Bill, over-budget and backup reminders are scheduled and delivered on the phone, with no push service in the middle.
CSV for a spreadsheet, PDF for a record, and JSON that restores everything if you change phones. They go out through the share sheet, to wherever you choose — which is the only time Potli touches the network at all.
Most people do not need a finance degree. They need to know, without doing any work, whether this month is going the way the last one did.
A potli (पोटली) is the little drawstring pouch you keep money in. That is the whole idea: a pouch you can open, count and close, that belongs to nobody but you.
Because the existing ones fail in one of two ways. Either they demand your bank credentials and a great deal of trust, or they are a manual ledger with a nicer font — and manual ledgers get abandoned in the third week, every time.
Potli is built around that abandonment problem. Entry is fast enough to survive a habit, and the app does the thinking on top rather than handing you a table and wishing you luck.
Potli has no back end. Every entry, category, budget, recurring transaction and setting is written to a SQLite database on the device and stays there. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to — no sign-up, no sync, no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter.
That rules out one convenient feature and rules out an entire category of risk, which we think is the right trade for an app that lives on your personal finances. The full detail is in the Potli privacy policy.
The flip side is that a backup is your job rather than ours. Uninstalling the app deletes the data for good, so Settings has a one-tap Export as JSON that restores cleanly onto a new phone — and Potli will nudge you about it if you go too long without one.
Currency is a setting, not an assumption. Digit grouping switches between 1,234,567 and the Indian 12,34,567, the interface runs in English or हिन्दी, and the theme follows the phone. Coming to both Android and iOS.
