On the web

What it looks like on screen

  • express-cargo.in
The Express Cargo home page — "Delivering India's Businesses, One Shipment at a Time" beside a Delhi NCR to Bengaluru air consignment card with live tracking active.

Track Your Shipment is the first button on the page, because it is the thing most visitors came to do.

Capabilities

What it actually does

Docket management, properly

The docket is the spine of a cargo business. Creation, amendment, consignor and consignee details, freight terms, status history — modelled on how despatch clerks actually work rather than on a generic CRM.

Live tracking on a public URL

A customer enters a docket number and sees where their consignment is and what happened to it, without an account, a login or a phone call to the branch.

Four modes, one workflow

Air, road, rail and e-commerce delivery differ in pricing, timing and paperwork but share a booking flow. The system holds the differences so the operator does not have to.

An operations portal, not a CMS

Bookings, status updates, branch and client records, and site content are all managed from one back office with role-appropriate access.

Express Cargo moves freight across India by air, road and rail — from same-city e-commerce drops to nationwide bulk shipments. They needed the digital half of that operation to be as dependable as the physical half.

Logistics software has a specific shape

Generic booking tools do not fit cargo. The unit of work is the docket, and it carries far more than an address: consignor and consignee, mode, number of packages, actual and charged weight, freight terms, declared value, insurance, branch of origin, and a status history that has to stay auditable.

Get the docket model wrong and every screen downstream fights it. So we started there and built outward.

What we built

A public-facing site that presents the four service lines — air cargo, road freight, rail cargo and e-commerce delivery — alongside coverage, process and client stories, plus a dedicated operations portal for the team who run the network day to day.

The customer side

  • Track by docket number, with no login. The single most-used feature on any logistics site, so it sits in the header on every page and works on a phone with one bar of signal.
  • Booking enquiries that capture mode, route and cargo type up front, so the first call back is a quote rather than a questionnaire.
  • Service, coverage and process pages that answer the questions a freight buyer asks before they ask them.

The operations side

  • Docket lifecycle — create, amend, dispatch, update status, deliver, close.
  • Consignment status updates that publish straight to the public tracking page, so what the customer sees is what the branch just entered.
  • Client, branch and rate records maintained in-house.
  • Content control over the front site, from service copy to coverage areas.

How it is put together

Roles are separated — a branch operator sees their own dockets, an administrator sees the network. Status changes are recorded rather than overwritten, so a consignment’s history survives a dispute. Everything is designed to be usable on a mid-range Android phone at a loading dock, because that is where a lot of it is used.

The result

Express Cargo runs bookings, dockets and tracking on one system, and their customers answer “where is my shipment” for themselves.
